When Corey first walked into this circa-1900 Victorian home, he was immediately struck by its sense of soul. He was completely mesmerized by the intricately carved millwork and the multitude of original stained-glass windows that were visible in every direction.

The delightful first impression was a big reason I took on the project of renovating and restoring the home, in collaboration with its owners (some decorative decisions had already been made, and the couple asked me to layer them into my design plans.)

Our intent: to bring the dwelling forward to the present without losing its essential nature, to evolve a twenty-first-century interpretation of classicism and elegance that would seem fresh and modern.

The real joy of working on a period home is figuratively tapping into a conversation across the decades with the original makers, understanding their vision, and then reimagining the interiors with our own personal statements today. Many of our design choices in this house would have been far from conventional in 1900, but we always made them in the spirit of what was already in place. While honoring the soul of the house as it was first built, we created something friendly and comfortable for a young family to enjoy.
