Designed for Sotheby’s, Visions of America would be a new approach to the company’s annual auctions of furniture, art, and decorative items that had previously gone under the label of “Americana.”

Fashion designer Thom Browne was tapped as a guest curator to select his favorite lots from the upcoming sales, and Corey incorporated some of his choices into the interiors of a mini-show house created inside the auction house’s New York galleries.

Corey decided to imagine an apartment his mother would have fashioned for herself in the 1970s. Naming the project “Gwendolyn’s Pied-à-Terre” in her honor, we fashioned rooms and added intricate mouldings and a fireplace — in essence, building out an almost complete urban apartment comprising an entryway, living room, dining corner, study area, and bedroom. The pieces drawn from the Sotheby’s sales dated from colonial times to the early twentieth century.
